FAQs

Why is CAT not a good password?

As with most websites not open to the public, this site requires a user ID and password to log in. Computer hackers commonly use sophisticated software that can automatically generate millions of ID/password combinations in an attempt to "break in" to a restricted website. To minimize this risk, the objective is to use IDs and passwords (especially passwords) that are not easily guessed. CAT is easy for a computer to guess.

In the jargon of the industry, the objective is to use a "strong" password. Click on the following Microsoft website link for help in creating strong passwords, then click on the left arrow in your browser to return to this FAQ.

Note that the above link has a Password Checker where you can immediately test a password's strength. For example, "10Catsin5hats", a combination of 13 numbers and mixed-case letters, is identified as a "Strong" password.

In order to reduce the chances of a break-in to the La Joya Verde site, a minimum requirement has been place on user passwords. Please click the Help link on the Register or Profile page for the current requirement. Also please see the related FAQ item, "What security measures have been taken?"
